To be neurodivergent means that the way you think deviates from the norm. Meanwhile, most of the population is neurotypical (NT) (about 80%); therefore many times someone who is neurodivergent (ND) is sidestepped and ostracized. Being (ND) is no easy task, most individuals are forced to mask. Masking is a ND person’s way of concealing parts of themselves that society would deem unacceptable. It’s a way to fit in but it can be very exhausting and can burnout. This burnout can set someone back for weeks, months, even years at a time.
Examples of conditions that are consider ND are listed below in the Neurodivergent Umbrella. Notice how varied ND conditions varying from developmental, neurological, psychological, and more. All of these conditions come together to demonstrate neurodiversity in society that tries to keep us masked. On this site we TAKE THE MASK OFF showing our true selves through various art mediums: music, poetry, 2D art, crochet, wood carving, other types of 3D art.
